1998 Ford Taurus Service and Repair Manual

This factory service and repair manual for the 1998 Ford Taurus handles three naturally aspirated engines, the flex-fuel or gasoline 3.0L OHV V6, the 3.0L DOHC V6 and the 3.4L DOHC V8, in the four-door sedan and four-door wagon. Four trims are named: LX, SE, SE Comfort and SHO. The two 3.0L V6s are told apart by valvetrain throughout, so the procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics for the OHV engine are never mixed with those for the DOHC engine, and the V8 has a set of its own.

Known issues on the 1998 Taurus. Four recalls are on the federal record. One concerns the front seat belt buckle attaching stud on cars with manual seat tracks, which was improperly heat treated and can crack; another is the headlamp aiming instructions in the owner guide, too unclear to keep replacement headlamps aimed properly; the remaining two cover aftermarket replacement lamps that fail the federal lighting standard. Owners have lodged 587 complaints with NHTSA, led by vehicle speed control, then the service brakes and engine and engine cooling.
