1989 Chevrolet Caprice Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1989 Chevrolet Caprice follows a simple shape: sedan and wagon, four trims, three engines. The Base, Classic, Classic Brougham and Classic LS Brougham cars all draw on the same overhead-valve, naturally aspirated gasoline lineup — a 4.3-liter V6 of 262 cubic inches and V8s of 305 and 350 cubic inches. Because those three engines share a design family, the torque values and clearance figures read across the range without much translation from one to the next.

Known issues on the 1989 Caprice. The federal record shows two recalls for this year, both about fluid escaping and finding heat: replacement oil filters that may not seal against the block, and replacement fuel filters that can leak at the connection. Twenty owner complaints were filed, the top clusters being four on seat belts, three on the service brakes and two on tires. Belt anchorage and retractor procedures, brake hydraulic diagnostics and the wheel and tire specifications are all set out in this manual with their own torque figures.
