1987 Chevrolet Caprice Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1987 Chevrolet Caprice covers a four-rung trim ladder — Base, Classic, Classic Brougham and Classic LS Brougham — across sedan, wagon and coupe bodies. The engines are unchanged in character from the year before: a 262-cubic-inch 4.3-liter V6 and two overhead-valve V8s of 305 and 350 cubic inches, all naturally aspirated and burning gasoline. With four trims sharing three engines, the wiring diagrams and interior procedures carry more variation than the mechanical sections do.

Known issues on the 1987 Caprice. Four recalls are on the federal record. Two describe leaks that can reach an ignition source — a replacement oil filter that seals inadequately and a replacement fuel filter that can seep at its connection. A third covers a cruise control servo bushing that slips and lets engine speed climb or the throttle stick. The fourth is an improperly formed manual valve link in the transmission, which can separate so the car engages a gear other than the one selected, or starts already in gear. Nineteen complaints were filed, led by four each on speed control and the power train.
MANUAL VALVE LINK IN THE TRANSMISSION MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY FORMED.
