1986 Ford Taurus Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1986 Ford Taurus covers two engines, a naturally aspirated 2.5L OHV inline-four and a naturally aspirated 3.0L OHV V6, both gasoline fueled. It documents the four-door sedan and the four-door wagon across four trims: GL, L, LX and MT5. Procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics are laid out for both engines and both bodies, so the wagon's rear body hardware and the sedan's are each covered where they differ from one another.

Known issues on the 1986 Taurus. Eight recalls are on federal record, among them sway bar bracket welds on the front struts that did not fuse and can tear away into the tire, a rear-facing third seat footwell and wagon storage compartment that children can lock themselves into, and front disc brake rotors that corrode severely in road salt and can fracture. Owners have lodged 145 complaints with NHTSA, mostly on engine and engine cooling, the power train and the electrical system. The manual's procedures, specifications and torque values for the front struts, brake rotors and cooling system, with its wiring diagrams, cover those areas.
