Known issues on the 2017 CTS. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year, and both trace back to the same system: the electric power steering assist. General Motors first recalled certain 2016-2018 CTS vehicles because the EPS assist system could fail, requiring a higher steering effort at lower speeds and raising the risk of a crash. A second, later recall covers the same electric power steering assist failing in a way that again demands greater steering effort at low speeds and increases crash risk.
