Known issues on the 2009 CTS. Five recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the ignition key: if the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. The second covers the rear suspension toe link jam nuts, which carry a wax coating that can let the nuts loosen; if a nut loosens enough, the toe link can separate and the rear wheel can turn inboard or outboard, producing a sudden change in handling. The third covers a software fault in the passenger sensing system that can enable or disable the front passenger air bag incorrectly, raising injury risk in a crash. The fourth covers the heated washer fluid module, which can ignite. The fifth, on all-wheel-drive and CTS-V cars, covers non-compliance with the front passenger crash-protection standard, raising the risk of leg injury in a crash. Owners have filed 167 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are logged. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
From a rear toe link inspection to chasing a passenger air bag fault, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 2009 CTS.
