Owners told NHTSA about the 2016 Outback 640 times, and the electrical system accounts for 308 of those complaints, with visibility and wipers at 82 and the engine at 53; 22 complaints reported a crash, 3 a fire and 8 an injury. Certain 2016 Outback vehicles built during a set production window may have an improperly machined steering column, so turning the wheel might not steer the car; owners were told not to drive until repaired. On certain others from a narrow build period, loose nuts could let the drive shaft come away from the rear differential and strike the fuel tank.
