Known issues on the 2012 Outback. For the 2012 Outback, 16 recalls appear on the record along with 292 owner complaints, the largest group being the power train at 107, then the engine at 50 and air bags at 39. Of those complaints, 15 reported a crash, 6 a fire and 11 an injury. Certain 2012 Outback vehicles sold or registered in listed states were recalled because the passenger frontal air bag inflator can burst after long-term moisture and temperature exposure, spraying metal fragments; the fix is a new inflator. Certain cars with a replacement mechanical-key ignition switch were recalled as well, since a weakened switch can move out of run.
