Known issues on the 2001 Outback. Three recalls are on the federal record for this year. On certain 2001 Outback vehicles the cruise control cable could slip off its lever and snag, holding the throttle open after the driver lifted off; dealers added a retaining clip. Certain 2001 Outback vehicles registered in specified road-salt states were recalled because poorly painted rear subframe parts could rust through and break. A third covered certain 2001 Outback vehicles with automatic transmissions, whose faulty parking rod could leave park unable to hold the car. Owners filed 171 complaints, led by the gasoline fuel system (26) and hydraulic brakes (25); 16 complaints reported a crash, 5 a fire and 6 an injury.
