Known issues on the 2011 4500. NHTSA holds 4 recalls for the 2011 4500. On certain 2011 Ram 4500 trucks built within a set production window, the left tie rod assembly could break and cost the driver steering control. Certain trucks from another build window had diesel fuel heater connectors that could overheat and let the heater leak fuel, a fire risk. And certain 2011 4500 trucks fitted with a 220-amp alternator could see it fail suddenly, stalling the engine or shorting out. Of 14 owner complaints, 11 named steering, 3 suspension and 2 service brakes, with 1 on the fuel and propulsion system; 1 complaint reported a crash.
