Known issues on the 2011 Sentra. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year, both tracing back to the positive battery terminal. The first covers an over-thick zinc coating on the terminal stud bolt, which can cause a voltage drop that makes the car hard to start, can damage the engine control module, and can cause the engine to stall while the vehicle is in motion with the engine possibly unable to restart, increasing the risk of a crash. The second covers a machining irregularity on the terminal cable end that can open a gap in the contact area, again dropping voltage, causing hard starts and engine control module damage, with the added risk of the engine stopping while the vehicle is in motion at low speed with a difficult or no start, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners have filed 142 complaints for this model year, and no technical service bulletins are logged. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind that battery and starting circuit are covered here.
Whether you're chasing a hard-start complaint back to the battery terminal or working through a routine service interval, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and correct specification for your specific 2011 Sentra.
