Known issues on the 2006 Sentra. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. Three of them involve the passenger frontal air bag inflator module, which can rupture and send sharp metal fragments toward occupants; a fourth covers driver-side inflator replacement parts installed during theft or collision repair carrying the same explosion risk. Another covers the 2.5L engine's piston rings, which can allow excessive oil consumption that, if the oil level isn't maintained, leads to engine damage and in extreme cases an engine fire. A separate recall covers the 2.5L engine's crankshaft position sensor, which can overheat and briefly interrupt its signal, causing the engine to stall without warning at low speed. Owners have filed 116 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are logged. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
From tracing a stalling crankshaft position sensor to checking oil consumption on the 2.5L or confirming air bag inflator service history, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 2006 Sentra.
