Toyota built the 2006 Highlander in three powertrain forms: the 2.4L four (2AZ-FE), the 3.3L V6 (3MZ-FE), and the hybrid version of that V6. Five trims were offered, from Base up to Hybrid Limited. This is the factory service and repair manual for that model year, written to Toyota's own specifications for the 2006 build.

Known issues on the 2006 Highlander. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. One covers the accelerator pedal, which may temporarily become stuck in a partially depressed position; the same campaign reaches the 2004-2007 Lexus RX330, RX350 and RX400h. A second covers the brake master cylinder, where a leak of brake fluid can lead to a change in brake pedal feel. A third covers the front seat heater: if the copper strand heating element is damaged it may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. The remaining three are labeling campaigns — one over incorrect load carrying capacity modification labels, which could result in the vehicle being overloaded; one from Southeast Toyota over Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, covering tire selection and rims, where a driver may overload a vehicle and increase the risk of a crash; and one from Gulf States Toyota against that same standard, for labels that do not meet the standard requirements. Owners have logged 344 complaints against the 2006 Highlander and Toyota has issued 90 technical service bulletins for it.
Whether the job is a soft brake pedal traced back to the master cylinder, a front seat heater circuit that has quit, or scheduled service on a Hybrid Limited, it keeps you on Toyota's own procedure and the correct figure for this 2006 Highlander.
