Known issues on the 2004 Highlander. Four recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first is recorded under vehicle speed control and the accelerator pedal: if the condition occurs, the accelerator pedal may temporarily become stuck in a partially depressed position. The second covers the hydraulic brake master cylinder, where a leak of brake fluid could lead to a change in brake pedal feel. The third involves the rear side door latches — both rear side doors have a child protection lock system, and closing the door very hard can leave a condition that could allow the door to be opened from the inside. The fourth is an engine and engine cooling recall: in some cases, the belt for the power steering pump may become detached from the pulley. Owners have submitted 335 complaints for the year and Toyota has issued 92 technical service bulletins. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind every one of those systems sit in this manual.
