Known issues on the 2004 Jetta. There are 2 recalls against the 2004 Jetta. Certain 2004 Jetta vehicles received high-pressure diesel pumps built with the wrong fastener, which could let diesel escape and, near an ignition source, start a fire; dealers replaced the pump. Certain vehicles were also recalled for a brake light switch that might have been installed wrong and could leave the lights inoperative or on. Owners lodged 233 complaints, including engine and engine cooling (37), the electrical system (36) and the power train (35); 15 reported a crash, 20 a fire and 13 an injury.
