2004 Honda Pilot Service and Repair Manual
This manual is built specifically for the 2004 Honda Pilot: its factory service and repair procedures are pinned to the 3.5L V6 (J35A4) under the hood and to the exact trim on your title, so the torque values, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic steps inside are the ones Honda actually published for this Pilot, not a generic SUV-family reference.

Known issues on the 2004 Pilot. Thirteen recalls are on federal record for this model year. Eight cover the frontal air bag system: Takata-supplied driver and passenger inflators that can rupture under long-term heat and humidity exposure, sending metal fragments toward occupants, plus a separate passenger air bag that may have been installed incorrectly and deploy improperly in a crash. A headlight switch recall covers a wiring harness connector whose terminal ends can melt, killing the low beams and cutting driver visibility. An ignition switch recall covers an interlock lever that can deform, letting the key be removed without the automatic transmission being in park so the vehicle can roll away. A separate recall covers heat build-up between the countershaft and secondary shaft second gears in the automatic transmission, which can chip or break gear teeth and lock up the transmission. Rounding out the list are a pinch-bolt hazard on an aftermarket bike rack sold for the Pilot and a certification label recall for incorrect weight and tire size information. Owners have filed 544 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are logged. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
From an air bag inflator inspection to chasing a rollaway-prone ignition interlock or a transmission gear check, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 2004 Pilot.
