2001 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 has four V8s to keep straight: a turbocharged 6.6L diesel of 403 cubic inches, and naturally aspirated gasoline units of 8.1L, 6.0L and 5.7L. Five body configurations run from a two-door standard cab pickup through extended and crew cab to bare cab and chassis, and four trims sit above them. Procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics are arranged by system, so the diesel material and the gasoline material stay in their own sections instead of being merged.

Known issues on the 2001 Silverado 3500. Eight recalls stand on the federal record. Most involve replacement lamp assemblies: combination lamps built without the amber side reflectors that make a truck visible from the flank, and headlamps whose beam falls outside the photometric limits, one throwing enough light to distract. One is mechanical — a crankshaft position sensor on the 8.1L V8 that can read intermittently and make the engine run rough, or quit entirely so it will not restart. Of 1,841 complaints, 821 name the service brakes, 188 engine and cooling, 98 tires; brake hydraulics and engine management are both specified here.
