Known issues on the 2000 Outback. Road salt lies behind the one recall filed for the 2000 Outback, which covers certain 2000 Outback vehicles originally sold or registered in certain states that use corrosive road salt: rear suspension subframe parts were painted poorly, and years of salt exposure can rust them through until the subframe breaks, which could affect control. Dealers clean and rustproof the subframe. Owners lodged 207 complaints, led by power train (42), engine and engine cooling (35), tires (30) and suspension (24).
