Known issues on the 2000 A6 Quattro. Four recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the driver-side front air bag inflator module: moisture absorption in the inflator can cause the air bag to deploy improperly in a crash, increasing the risk of serious injury or death. The second covers the electrical system: contact pins inside the headlight switch connector can short against each other, a condition that could lead to overheating or fire. The third covers the fuel tank storage assembly: sulfur in gasoline can deposit on the contact points of the fuel sending units, causing the fuel gauge to read full when the tank may in fact be low or empty, so the car can run out of fuel without warning. The fourth again covers the electrical system, where the knee bolster under the dashboard can contact the headlight switch wiring harness and short it, with the potential for a fire to originate in the left dashboard area. Owners have filed 153 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are logged. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
From tracing a headlight switch short to checking fuel sending unit accuracy or servicing whichever V6 or V8 sits under the hood, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 2000 A6 Quattro.
