Known issues on the 1998 Sentra. Five recalls are on federal record for this model year, all tied to aftermarket exterior lighting rather than a factory defect: four separate campaigns cover replacement combination corner, bumper, and headlamp assemblies sold without the required amber side reflectors, which fail federal lighting standard FMVSS 108 and can leave the vehicle poorly illuminated and at greater risk of a crash. The fifth covers the windshield wiper linkage, where water entering the ball joint can displace the grease inside, wear the joint over time, and eventually separate the linkage from the wiper motor, causing a loss of wiper function. Owners have filed 64 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are logged. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
From tracing a wiper linkage that's lost motion to sorting out replacement lighting compliance or a routine service interval, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 1998 Sentra.
