1998 Ford E-250 Econoline Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1998 Ford E-250 Econoline covers the 4.2L OHV V6 and a 5.4L SOHC V8 offered on CNG, as a bi-fuel gasoline and propane engine, or on gasoline alone. The bodies are the chassis, the cutaway van and the standard and extended cargo vans, in Base, Base Stripped, XL and XL Stripped trims. With three fueling arrangements on one engine, the fuel storage, delivery and control sections carry real weight, and every system has its own procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics.

Known issues on the 1998 E-250 Econoline. Underhood fire risk runs through most of the four recalls on the 1998 van's record. Two of them concern speed control: a deactivation switch that can leak internally, overheat and start an underhood fire, and a fuse placed in the output circuit rather than the intended power feed. A third covers bi-fuel natural gas vans modified by an outside company that do not meet the federal standard for compressed gas fuel system integrity. Owners have logged 28 complaints with NHTSA, led by steering, the service brakes and engine cooling. Speed control wiring, fuel system service, steering and brake procedures are all documented here.
