Known issues on the 1985 Jetta. Three recalls are on record for the 1985 Jetta. On certain 1985 Jetta vehicles, the end cap joining the heater core to the cooling system could burst and send hot coolant into the cabin, where it could scald the driver's feet and fog the glass; an improved heater core was the fix. On certain cars with a dual fuel pump system, an overly fine in-tank filter could starve the pump in hot weather until it seized, stalling the engine. Owners lodged 13 complaints, led by the power train at 4 and hydraulic service brakes at 3; 1 complaint reported a crash and 2 reported injuries.
