1984 Chevrolet Cavalier Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1984 Chevrolet Cavalier has five trims to keep straight, Base, CL, CS, Olympic and Type-10, spread over a convertible, a coupe, a sedan, a wagon and a hatchback. Powertrain work is simpler than that list suggests, because every one of them uses the same naturally aspirated 2.0L overhead-valve inline-four of 122 cubic inches on gasoline. Specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostic routines follow the systems of the car rather than its trim labels, with body coverage broken out where the shells actually differ.

Known issues on the 1984 Cavalier. Three recalls are on the federal record, and two of them concern the front seats. In the first, the floor pan anchor bar can fatigue and break where the driver's seat adjuster stud passes through, so the seat tips rearward while the car moves. In the second, bucket seat back locks may not hold in a crash. The third covers a replacement fuel filter that seals poorly and can weep gasoline near a hot engine. Ten complaints were entered, three on the power train and two on the seat belts; restraint anchorage, seat assembly and fuel line service are detailed here.
