Known issues on the 2012 Altima. Four recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the side curtain air bags, which were built with an incorrect propellant mixture that can leave them without enough compressed gas to deploy properly. The second covers the air bag control unit, which was assembled incorrectly on certain build dates and may keep the air bags from inflating in a crash. The third covers transverse link and power steering rack bolts that were not torqued to specification and could come loose, risking a loss of vehicle control. The fourth also covers a transverse link bolt torqued below specification, which can loosen during driving and produce rattling, vibration, and steering difficulty if it works free. Owners have filed 425 complaints for the year, and no technical service bulletins are logged. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
From a front suspension bolt check to air bag system diagnostics or routine service, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 2012 Altima.
