Known issues on the 2010 RAV4. Twelve recalls are on federal record for this model year. Three of them cover the rear suspension: failure of the rear tie rod could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. Two cover the accelerator pedal, one where the pedal may become hard to depress or slow to return to idle, and one where a stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop. One covers the power window devices and controls, and applies if the sliding electrical contacts are not protected by lubricant. One covers the rear seat belts, where a cut seat belt may not properly restrain the seat occupant, increasing their risk of injury. One covers the frontal air bag sensor and control module, where the front passenger seat occupant sensing system is out of calibration. Three cover vehicle labels: an inaccurate label could lead to owners overloading their vehicles and tires, a driver may overload a vehicle which may increase the risk of a crash, and in the third the labeling does not meet the standard requirements. The last covers the front seat heaters, where the copper strand heating element, if damaged, may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. Owners have filed 498 complaints against the 2010 RAV4 and Toyota has issued 144 technical service bulletins for it.
