The 2007 Toyota RAV4 was sold with a choice of two engines, the 2.4L four-cylinder (2AZ-FE) and the 3.5L V6 (2GRFE), across five trim levels, and the two engines do not share service specifications. Known issues on the 2007 RAV4. Twelve recalls are on federal record for this model year. Three cover the rear suspension: failure of the rear tie rod could cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. One covers the accelerator pedal, where a stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop. Two cover the power window devices and controls: on the first, the sliding electrical contacts may not be protected by lubricant; on the second, if the switch overheats, it may melt, possibly resulting in a fire. One covers the air bags, in the curtain shield airbag (CSA) system, where inadvertent activation of the CSA and/or the seat belt pretensioner can cause injury. One covers the rear seat belts, where a cut seat belt may not properly restrain the seat occupant, increasing their risk of injury. One covers the front seat heater, where the copper strand heating element, if damaged, may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. The remaining three are labeling recalls: incorrect load carrying capacity modification labels could result in the vehicle being overloaded, and Southeast Toyota and Gulf States Toyota separately recalled vehicles for failing to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, Tire Selection and Rims, where a driver may overload a vehicle which may increase the risk of a crash. Owners have filed 1,240 complaints for the year and Toyota has issued 121 technical service bulletins.
Whether the job is a rear tie rod inspection, a power window switch that has started to act up, or routine maintenance on the four-cylinder, the procedure is Toyota's own at the specification set for a 2007 RAV4.
