Known issues on the 2010 Avalon. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. Two of them involve the accelerator pedal: in one, the pedal may become hard to depress or slow to return to idle; in the other, a stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop. A third, from Southeast Toyota Distributors, is a frontal air bag recall against the sensor and control module, where the front passenger seat occupant sensing system is out of calibration. Two more are labeling recalls for failing to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, tire selection and rims: on the Southeast Toyota vehicles a driver may overload a vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash, and on the Gulf States Toyota vehicles the record states only that this does not meet the standard requirements. The sixth covers the front seat heater, where a damaged copper strand heating element may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. Owners have filed 51 complaints for this model year, and 161 technical service bulletins are on file.
