Two of them concern the accelerator pedal: in one, the pedal may become hard to depress or slow to return to idle; in the other, a stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop. A third covers the frontal airbag sensor and control module, where the front passenger seat occupant sensing system can be out of calibration. Two more are labeling recalls issued through regional distributors for failing to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110 on tire selection and rims: the Southeast Toyota campaign notes that a driver may overload a vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash, while the Gulf States Toyota campaign is recorded as not meeting the standard requirements. The sixth covers the front seat heater, where a damaged copper strand heating element may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. Owners have filed 110 complaints against the 2009 Avalon, and 154 technical service bulletins have been issued for it.
