Known issues on the 2005 Avalon. Six recalls are on federal record for this model year. One covers the brake master cylinder, where a leak of brake fluid could lead to a change in brake pedal feel. Two more concern the accelerator pedal: in the first, the pedal may become hard to depress or slow to return to idle; in the second, the pedal can get stuck in the wide open position, which may result in very high vehicle speeds. A fourth covers the steering column, where the steering yoke was not welded to the steering shaft and may come off from the shaft, so that loss of control of the vehicle could result in a crash. A fifth, from Southeast Toyota, covers the tire selection and rims label: a driver may overload a vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash. The sixth covers the front seat heater, whose copper strand heating element may short circuit if damaged, increasing the risk of a fire. There are 303 owner complaints on record for the model year, and Toyota has issued 108 technical service bulletins.
