Known issues on the 1999 4Runner. Two recalls are on the federal record for this model year, and both concern exterior lighting. One covers certain CK Motorsports combination headlights, clear corner, bumper and side marker lights sold as replacement lamps for use on the passenger vehicles listed; without the amber reflectors, the vehicle will be poorly illuminated. The other covers certain Pro-A Motors corner lamps, turn signals and headlights sold as replacement lamps for use on certain passenger vehicles listed, with the same consequence: without the amber reflectors, the vehicle will be poorly illuminated. Owners have logged 312 complaints against the 1999 4Runner, and 22 technical service bulletins have been issued for it.
Both campaigns name lamps sold as replacement equipment, not the lighting fitted on the assembly line, so a lighting fault on one of these trucks is worth checking against the parts actually installed before the harness is suspected. The 312 complaints and 22 bulletins on record for the year point to where a 1999 4Runner has most often needed attention.
