The 2010 Toyota 4Runner was sold with two engines from different families, the 4.0L V6 (1GR-FE) and the 2.7L four-cylinder (2TR-FE), so a torque spec or a service interval that is right for one is usually wrong for the other. Trim is the second variable: Limited, SR5 and Trail were equipped differently around the same chassis, and both questions have to be settled before any number is worth trusting on this truck.

Known issues on the 2010 4Runner. Eight recalls are on federal record for this model year. Three of them involve the airbag system. Two cover the passenger-side frontal inflator module: one because an inflator rupture may result in metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants, the other because an inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants. The third covers the frontal airbag sensor and control module, where the front passenger seat occupant sensing system can be out of calibration. Three more were written against vehicle labels: an inaccurate label could lead to owners overloading their vehicles and tires; a driver may overload a vehicle which may increase the risk of a crash; and a third states that this does not meet the standard requirements. The remaining two are hardware. On the exhaust system, contact with an exhaust tip may result in personal injury. On the front seat heater, a damaged copper strand heating element may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. Owners have logged 175 complaints against the 2010 4Runner, and 153 technical service bulletins have been issued for the year.
That record clusters in a few places, and they are the places a 2010 4Runner in the bay tends to send you first: the front airbags and their occupant sensing, the seat heater circuits, the load and tire labeling, and the exhaust. Around those sit the ordinary jobs, valve clearance, cooling, brakes and driveline, each on the schedule its own engine keeps.
