The 2007 Toyota 4Runner was sold with a choice of two engines, the 4.0L V6 (1GR-FE) and the 4.7L V8 (2UZ-FE), in Limited, SR5 and Sport trim. The two share the model name and very little else: different displacement, different cylinder count, different service figures. A torque spec or a clearance that is right for one is wrong for the other, so the engine under the hood decides which numbers apply long before a wrench is picked up.

Known issues on the 2007 4Runner. Four recalls are on federal record for this model year. One is a vehicle speed control recall covering the accelerator pedal: a stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop. Two more are labeling recalls filed under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, “Tire Selection and Rims”, one by Southeast Toyota, where a driver may overload a vehicle which may increase the risk of a crash, and one by Gulf States Toyota, where the labeling does not meet the standard requirements. The fourth covers the front seat heater: if damaged, the copper strand heating element may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. Alongside the recalls, 204 owner complaints are on file for the 2007 4Runner and 88 technical service bulletins have been issued.
