Known issues on the 2006 4Runner. Five recalls are on federal record for this model year. One covers the accelerator pedal: a stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop. A second covers the side curtain-shield air bags, which can deploy unexpectedly and increase the risk of occupant injury. Two more are labeling recalls filed by regional distributors against Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, "Tire Selection and Rims": on the Southeast Toyota recall a driver may overload a vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash, and on the Gulf States Toyota recall the labeling does not meet the standard requirements. The fifth covers the front seat heater assembly, where a damaged copper strand heating element may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. Owners have filed 519 complaints against the 2006 4Runner, and 90 technical service bulletins are on record for it.
