Known issues on the 2008 4Runner. Four recalls are on federal record for this model year. One covers the accelerator pedal: a stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop. Two are labeling campaigns run by regional distributors against Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, tire selection and rims — the Southeast Toyota campaign warns that a driver may overload a vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash, and the Gulf States Toyota campaign records that the labeling does not meet the standard requirements. The fourth covers the front seat heaters, where a damaged copper strand heating element may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. Owners have filed 134 complaints against the 2008 4Runner and Toyota has issued 127 technical service bulletins for it.
