Known issues on the 1997 Crown Victoria. The 1997 Crown Victoria has eight recalls on the federal record. On cars built with traction control, the rear brake line can chafe against a floor pan rib and leak, softening the pedal; the speed control deactivation switch can overheat, smoke or burn; and aftermarket seat belt assemblies fail the federal standard and may not restrain an occupant. Owners have filed 316 complaints with NHTSA, most of them on the engine and cooling system at 86, the service brakes at 58 and the suspension at 46. Cooling system diagnostics, brake line routing and suspension specifications speak to each of those.
