Known issues on the 1986 Accord. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the fuel filler and breather pipes: if the plastic coating on these steel pipes is damaged, salt water can work between the coating and the metal, corroding the pipes until they rust through and let gasoline fumes and fuel leak out near a possible ignition source. The second covers the front seat belt buckles: the red plastic release buttons marked "PRESS" can break, and broken pieces falling into the buckle assembly can keep it from operating properly, leaving the belt unable to protect an occupant in a crash. Owners have filed 63 complaints for the year. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind both systems are here.
From inspecting the fuel filler pipe for corrosion to checking a seat belt buckle for a cracked release button, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 1986 Accord.
