Known issues on the 2009 Accord. Eleven recalls are on federal record for this model year. The bulk of them cover the driver and passenger frontal air bag inflator modules, where propellant degradation or an incorrectly installed replacement inflator can cause the inflator to explode or deploy improperly, sending sharp metal fragments toward occupants in a crash. A separate recall covers the air bag control unit, which can corrode and fail so the air bags may not deploy in a crash. Another covers the automatic transmission's secondary shaft bearing: a broken outer race can short-circuit the control module and stall the engine, or lodge debris in the parking pawl and let the car roll after the driver has shifted into Park. A final recall covers an aftermarket full nose mask sold for this model that can interfere with the secondary hood latch and let the hood pop open while driving, reducing driver visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
