Known issues on the 2017 Sienna. Eight recalls sit on the federal record for this model year, spread across Toyota’s own campaigns, its regional distributors and the mobility converters who build on the Sienna. Two of them cover the fuel pump: if the fuel pump fails, the engine can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash. A Southeast Toyota Distributors campaign covers vehicles equipped with factory-installed floor mats, where an incorrect label may lead to unintentionally overloading the vehicle. Gulf States Toyota recalled the temporary spare tire, where a spare tire that is not inflated to the proper value may not perform as intended. Three come from mobility conversions: on modified Sienna vehicles, Braun steering shaft extensions may have been improperly manufactured, and if a steering shaft extension completely fractures it can cause a loss of steering; on Braun mobility van conversions, the brake lines may have incorrect tube nut fittings installed, and the reduction in braking system pressure may cause a loss of braking power; and on AMS Genesis wheelchair vans built on the Sienna, the rear brake hoses can fail, resulting in a loss of vehicle control. The eighth, from Rollx Vans, covers wheelchair restraint and securement hardware, where an unsecured wheelchair can move during transit, increasing the risk of injury. Owners have filed 194 complaints against the 2017 Sienna, and 115 technical service bulletins have been issued for it.
