Known issues on the 2011 Prius. Three recalls sit on the federal record for this model year, two of them on air bags. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing recalled the side and window curtain shield air bags because either portion of the curtain shield air bag inflator can eject into the passenger cabin. Southeast Toyota Distributors issued the other two: one on the frontal air bag sensor and control module, where the front passenger seat occupant sensing system can be out of calibration, and one on the front seat heaters, where a damaged copper strand heating element may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire. Owners have filed 658 complaints against the 2011 Prius, and 161 technical service bulletins have been published for it.
