Known issues on the 2006 Prius. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first is a vehicle speed control defect at the accelerator pedal: the pedal can get stuck in the wide open position, and a stuck open accelerator pedal may result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to stop. The second is a labeling defect on vehicles distributed by Southeast Toyota, which failed to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, “Tire Selection and Rims”; a driver may overload a vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash. Owners have filed 1,690 complaints against the 2006 Prius, and Toyota has issued 110 technical service bulletins for it.
