The 2010 Toyota Prius is a hybrid hatchback built around a 1.8L naturally aspirated four (2ZR-FXE) working through the electric drive motor and the high-voltage battery, which is why so much of the work on this car runs through the hybrid control system rather than around it: brake work has to account for the regenerative side, and an air bag fault can trace back to the occupant sensing calibration rather than to the bag itself. Toyota specified this car separately for the 2010 model year and for the trim it left the plant as, so the torque figures and service sequences are the ones set for this vehicle, not values carried over from an adjacent year.

Known issues on the 2010 Prius. Seven recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the side and window curtain shield air bags, where either portion of the curtain shield air bag inflator can eject into the passenger cabin. The second covers the frontal air bag sensor and control module on vehicles where the front passenger seat occupant sensing system is out of calibration. Two are brake recalls: the antilock brake control unit, where customers experienced inconsistent brake feel after ABS actuation during slow and steady application and vehicle stopping distances may increase relative to a customer's expectation; and the service brakes, where nitrogen released into the brake fluid can leave the brake pedal with reduced hydraulic pressure. Two more are distributor labeling recalls for failing to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, Tire Selection and Rims: on the Southeast Toyota vehicles a driver may overload a vehicle, which may increase the risk of a crash, and on the Gulf States Toyota vehicles the label does not meet the standard requirements. The seventh covers the front seat heaters, whose copper strand heating element may short circuit if damaged, increasing the risk of a fire. Owners have registered 3,481 complaints against the 2010 Prius, and 164 technical service bulletins have been issued for it.
From a brake pedal that feels wrong after an ABS event to an air bag warning that will not clear or a hybrid system check at a scheduled interval, the work is done to Toyota's own procedure and to the specification set for this 2010 Prius.
