Known issues on the 2008 A6. Four recalls are on federal record for this model year. Three separate campaigns cover the passenger frontal air bag inflator module, split by region and model-year build window: the inflator can explode or rupture in a crash, sending metal fragments toward the occupants and risking serious injury or death. The fourth covers the automatic trunk lid mechanism: if one of the two gas struts loses pressure, the control software can misread the slow movement as a manual close command and release the motor clutch, snapping the lid shut rapidly with a risk of injury.
