Known issues on the 2006 A6. Four recalls are on federal record for this model year. Three separate campaigns cover the passenger frontal air bag inflator module: propellant degradation in the inflator can cause it to explode or rupture, sending metal fragments toward the vehicle's occupants and resulting in serious injury or death. A fourth recall covers the automatic trunk lid, where a gas strut that loses pressure can be misread by the closing software as a manual close command, causing the lid to slam shut rapidly and creating a risk of personal injury.
