2004 Nissan Maxima Service and Repair Manual
This 2004 Nissan Maxima factory service and repair manual is built around the 3.5L V6 (VQ35DE) as delivered in your trim, giving you the exact torque values and diagnostic steps Nissan wrote for this car instead of a generic V6 procedure that only mostly applies.

Known issues on the 2004 Maxima. Two recalls are on federal record for this model year. The first covers the power front seat: on cars with the driver preferred package, the wire harness from the power lumbar support switch can be routed incorrectly and pinched under the seat, and a pinched harness combined with driving vibration can short circuit and lead to a fire in the seat. The second covers the Skyview sunroof glass, which may not have been quenched properly during forming, leaving temper imbalance that can create excessive internal stress and eventually cause the glass to shatter. Owners have filed 1,425 complaints for the year and no technical service bulletins are logged. The factory diagnostic and repair procedures behind each of those systems are here.
From tracing a seat harness fault to inspecting sunroof glass or working through a routine V6 service interval, it keeps you on the OEM procedure and the correct specification for your specific 2004 Maxima.
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE DRIVER PREFERRED PACKAGE, THE WIRE HARNESS FROM THE DRIVER'S SEAT POWER LUMBAR SUPPORT SWITCH MAY BE ROUTED INCORRECTLY AND COULD BE PINCHED UNDER THE DRIVER SEAT.
A PINCHED HARNESS, IN COMBINATION WITH DRIVING VIBRATION, MAY RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE HARNESS THAT COULD LEAD TO A FIRE IN THE SEAT.
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WIRE HARNESS AND ROUTE IT CORRECTLY. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 16, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH SKYVIEW ROOFS, THE GLASS FOR THE ROOF MAY NOT HAVE BEEN QUENCHED PROPERLY AFTER THE FORMING PROCESS, RESULTING IN TEMPER IMBALANCE.
THIS COULD CREATE EXCESSIVE INTERNAL STRESS IN THE GLASS AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE THE GLASS TO SHATTER, CREATING A RISK OF INJURY.
DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE GLASS IN THE SKYVIEW ROOF. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 7, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
