2004 Chevrolet Express 1500 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 2004 Chevrolet Express 1500 covers a 5.3L V8 of 325 cubic inches and a 4.3L V6 of 262, each an overhead-valve gasoline engine without forced induction, in three-door cargo and passenger bodies with Base and LS equipment. Most of the book's weight falls where a working van actually wears, on brake hydraulics, steering linkage and geometry, and transmission and axle service, and each of those sections carries the clearances and torque values the work depends on.

Known issues on the 2004 Express 1500. Seven recalls are recorded against this model year. Two concern the brake booster: a hydraulic accumulator that can crack and separate under normal use, bleeding off fluid, and an out-of-specification relief valve bore that can fracture its seal and raise the effort needed at the pedal. A transmission shift cable that separates leaves the lever and the indicator disagreeing, so the van may move in a direction the driver did not choose. Of 57 complaints, service brakes lead at fifteen, with fuel and steering at six each.
