Known issues on the 2001 Lumina. Four recalls are recorded federally, three of them on restraints. Passenger air bag inflators were built with the wrong amount of gas-generating material — some with a double charge that can burst the module and throw metal and plastic debris, some with none at all, which leaves the bag unfilled. A separate campaign covers passenger bags assembled without a check valve pin, so deployment pressure spikes at the outset and falls away afterward. Seat belt buckle bases that were not properly heat treated complete the restraint problems. Owner complaints are low at 26, touching engine and cooling, brakes and the power train.
