This factory service and repair manual for the 1996 Chevrolet C2500 has a shorter engine list than the years around it, four rather than six: the 5.0L and 7.4L gasoline V8s, the turbocharged 6.5L diesel and a 5.7L V8 able to run on compressed natural gas or gasoline. Bodies stay at three, the extended cab, the standard cab and the cab and chassis, with Base, 400 SS, Cheyenne, Custom and Silverado trims. A shorter engine list speeds identification but does nothing to shrink the chassis sections.

Known issues on the 1996 C2500. The federal record shows a clean year, with no recalls and no owner complaints. The manual's value here is procedural rather than cautionary. It sets out engine mechanical work and fuel-system diagnosis for four engines, including the compressed-natural-gas arrangement and the turbocharged diesel, then moves through the transmission, transfer case and axles, the hydraulic brake system, the steering and suspension with their alignment specifications, and the wiring diagrams for each cab body and trim level.
