This factory service and repair manual for the 1990 GMC K2500 has to hold three body styles, three trims and four engines in one volume. The bodies are the standard cab pickup, the extended cab pickup and the cab & chassis; the trims are Sierra, Sierra SLE and Sierra SLX; the engines are the 4.3L V6, the 5.0L V8 and the 5.7L V8 on gasoline plus the 6.2L V8 on diesel. Known issues on the 1990 K2500. The federal record lists four recalls against this year. Replacement fuel filters can seal imperfectly and let fuel leak near an ignition source; transmission fluid can be forced out of the vent tube when heat builds beyond what the transmission was expected to see, and it burns readily; and the rear lap-shoulder belt adjustment instructions supplied with some trucks are wrong, which can leave a belt badly adjusted in a crash. Two owner complaints are logged with NHTSA, one on seat belts and one on the power train. Restraint procedures and driveline diagnostics answer that second pair directly.

UNANTICIPATED HEAT IN THE TRANSMISSION CAN FORCE THE TRANSMISSION FLUID OUT OF THE VENT TUBE.
Consequence
THE VENTED TRANSMISSION FLUID CAN CATCH FIRE IF EXPOSEDTO A SOURCE OF IGNITION.
