1986 GMC K2500 Service and Repair Manual
This factory service and repair manual for the 1986 GMC K2500 lists three engines, the 6.2L diesel V8, the 4.8L gasoline inline-six and the 5.7L gasoline V8, and two bodies, the standard cab pickup and the cab & chassis. Base, High Sierra and Sierra Classic are the trims. Because none of the engines is turbocharged and all three use overhead valves, their tune-up and overhaul specifications sit close together in the book, which helps a shop moving between the diesel and the gasoline units in one day.

Known issues on the 1986 K2500. One recall touches this model year, and it is an aftermarket one: replacement oil filters sold for trucks like this could seal inadequately and let engine oil escape, with a fire the worst outcome. Owners have filed five complaints with NHTSA, two of them about the suspension and the others about the fuel system and equipment. Suspension and fuel delivery work both carry procedures, specifications and torque values here, and the engine diagnostics cover the symptoms that follow a loss of oil pressure.
