This factory service and repair manual for the 1983 GMC K2500 narrows to a single body style, the standard cab pickup, but keeps three engines on its list: a 6.2L diesel V8, a 4.8L gasoline inline-six and a 5.7L gasoline V8, each an overhead-valve unit running without forced induction. Three trims were offered, Base, High Sierra and Sierra Classic, and the same procedures, specifications and torque values apply across all of them, so the badge on the fender changes nothing about the work underneath.

Known issues on the 1983 K2500. Nothing is recorded against the 1983 truck at the federal level, with no recalls and no owner complaints logged with NHTSA. What the manual has to do instead is the routine work: procedures, specifications, torque values, wiring diagrams and diagnostics for the 6.2L diesel, the 4.8L inline-six and the 5.7L V8, and for the standard cab pickup those engines were installed in, whichever of the three trims a given truck left the plant wearing.

Consequence
THIS CONDITION MAY CAUSE INADEQUATE SEALING AND LOSS OF ENGINE OIL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A FIRE.
Remedy
HONEYWELL WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED OIL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN DURING NOVEMBER 20
